'Come and Sing Day' at St Paul's Hall, Huddersfield

Zimbe! Come and sing the songs of Africa. Zimbe is Swahili for "let us sing" and we invite singers to come and do just that on Saturday 13th March 2010 in St Paul's Hall, Huddersfield. Live Concert

The 40 minute work was written by Alexander l'Estrange who is a successful jazz musician and superb arranger and he has taken all his skills and ploughed them into Zimbe! - a real celebration of African song. The cantata features twelve fantastic songs with a jazzy twist. L'Estrange says of Zimbe! "It's simply a celebration of some incredible music that deserves to be enjoyed by musicians and audiences".

So, we hope that singers will come and join us for what will be an uplifting and inspiring event. The day will be led by well known choral directors Thom Meredith and Lynn Hudson who have worked extensively with both adults and young people. We will rehearse from 10.30 and give a performance - accompanied by a five piece jazz band - at 5.00pm. Adults and young singers (from year 7 upwards) are welcome to join us. There is a special part for younger voices but they will be joining in the full work too.

Interested in joining us and being part of the first performance of Zimbe! in West Yorkshire? Just print off the application form below and return it with a cheque (payable to HFCC) for £20 per adult and £10 per singer in full time education. Places are limited so do apply in good time.

Please send your application to Sue Rosborough, HFCC Administrator, using the details on the Contacts Page.

Feedback about Zimbe! from performers who've enjoyed it includes the following from Peter Allwood who conducted a performance in Lichfield Cathedral "Zimbe! is challenging yet at the same time accessible: great for the whole choral community. Zimbe! is simple to learn, attractive to sing and exhilarating to perform. It will not be long before it is being performed across the land."

If you would like any further information give Sue a ring or send an e-mail to info@hfccourse.co.uk. More information about Zimbe!, including soundbites can also be found at www.fabermusic.com.

We look forward to a great day! Tickets for the performance will be available in advance of the concert and on the door at just £4. Sue will reserve tickets for you - just contact her and she'll sort things out for you.
